OEM iPhone Screen Repairs at GoMobile?
Apple’s fight against your right to repair is no secret. For years, Apple has fought tooth and nail to keep you away from third-party repair shops like ours; instead, urging you to fork out your hard-earned cash hand-over-fist to fix your iPhone at an official Apple Store. They’ve released software updates that have disabled aftermarket screen replacements (and later reversed due to public outcry), they’ve made it impossible to replace your Touch ID home button without losing the fingerprint reading technology and they’ve even began to start encoding every individual iPhone screen with unique data so that if its replaced without the right equipment (don’t worry, we have it!), you’ll lose your True Tone capabilities. For nearly a decade, the outlook for repair-friendly Apple devices has been in steady decline. Offering original Apple screens at GoMobile has always seemed like a pipe dream.
That is, until now.
Apple’s Surprise Announcement
Imagine our surprise when we found out Apple has officially decided to start joining forces with independent cell phone repair shops! Just last month, Apple announce they were going to start allowing US companies to have access to their OEM parts so long as one of their technicians is certified through Apple’s in-house training program.
“To better meet our customers’ needs, we’re making it easier for independent providers across the US to tap into the same resources as our Apple Authorized Service Provider network,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer. “When a repair is needed, a customer should have confidence the repair is done right. We believe the safest and most reliable repair is one handled by a trained technician using genuine parts that have been properly engineered and rigorously tested”.
Oh…Canada?
So what does this mean for everybody in Vancouver looking to get their iPhone screen repair at an independent repair shop? Well, as it stands, it doesn’t mean much. Currently, Apple has only authorized a handful of third-party cell phone repair centers in America with no timetable for an official launch in Canada. If and when they do finally start offering these services to companies like your trusted pals at GoMobile, no doubt they’ll be looking to sell us expensive equipment and force us to charge the same price as the Apple Store. Will Apple allow us to continue to use non-authorized parts? Is this just a PR maneuver or a money grab? At any rate, if this is anything more than Apple trying to gain control over their competition, we haven’t seen the evidence.
Getting Bang For Your Buck
Although the majority of our current supply of Apple iPhone replacement screens are, in fact, high-quality aftermarket products, we also do carry genuine Apple screens (albeit unofficial) or OEM-quality replacements that are indistinguishable from the ones coming out of the Apple Store. So, if you’re looking to get the absolute best quality iPhone screen replacement for the lowest possible price, ask us about our OEM offerings when you book your phone repair. Generally, pricing falls somewhere between Apple’s prices and our aftermarket screens.
Having said all this, don’t be fooled by Apple into thinking you absolutely must replace your screen with the official parts or something comparable. There have been great leaps and bounds in the aftermarket smartphone parts world and the reason we rely on them is because of the great quality-to-cost ratio. Unless a discerning customer inquires about our OEM parts, most people would never even know the difference. If you check out our reviews, you’ll notice nobody is complaining about quality! And unless your home button or facial recognition components are damaged, we can safely replace your screen without losing any functionality. No matter which parts we install, all repairs at GoMobile are backed by a one-year warranty without any nasty fine-print like our competitors.
Should you really insist on going with official Apple parts, be prepared to pay for them. Currently, Apple is charging $365 for iPhone X broken glass repairs whereas we’re over $100 cheaper at $259 at the time of writing this article. No doubt, if and when we have access to Apple’s official (and overpriced parts), we’ll be offering them too if it makes good business sense.
